The power to change lives lies in your hands—and your feet.

On Oct. 19, please join Washington Gas employee volunteers and thousands of advocates supporting The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) annual Light the Night walk. Marked by a night-time walk lit with glowing lanterns, it symbolizes hope, remembrance, and support for those affected by leukemia, lymphoma, and other blood cancers.

Few situations touch more of us than the fight against cancer. We are proud to have supported LLS for over 20 years, and our employee teams helped raise $123,000 in 2023, bringing our total since 2000 to just over $2 million.

Steve Himmelfarb, Senior Director of Operations Services, leads this collaboration and successful fundraising spirit at Washington Gas. In addition to coordinating the annual Light the Night volunteering, he also chairs our annual fundraising golf tournament as another powerful way to take a swing at cancer.

“It’s an honor to serve as the chairperson to raise awareness of LLS and the Light the Night walks each year,” he said. “We’re walking for our friends, families, and community; every step brings hope and light to those fighting this battle every day."

LLS conducts regional Light the Night campaigns in every state and Washington, D.C. For the past two years, Steve has been the top individual fundraiser for the Washington D.C. Light the Night campaign, and Washington Gas has been the top corporate fundraiser during that same period.

We hope you will join us for the Washington D.C. Light the Night walk on Oct. 19. Together, we can help end blood cancers.
