One of the largest U.S. dairy operators implemented an energy management and cost-reduction system using natural gas.
Location: Germantown, MD
Holy Cross Germantown Hospital opened in 2014 as Montgomery County's first new hospital in 35 years. This full-service community hospital provides impatient, outpatient and emergency care, and serves as a training site for nurses and other health professionals.
With a remote location and complex terrain, the project needed a 900-foot main extension and over 1,900 feet of additional service pipeline to bring gas to the campus. With no practical way to reduce the gas piping infrastructure required, we worked with multiple project developers, utility consultants, engineers and subcontractors to create a viable solution.
The Washington Gas Systems Planning and Engineered Sales departments collaborated successfully with outside professionals from Richter & Associates, CRBE (formerly KLMK Group), Syska Hennessy Group and the hospital development group, to deliver natural gas heating, water heating and cooking gas to the hospital campus. Working together, everyone involved made the project a success in a timely fashion with minimal project concerns.
Holy Cross Hospital now has safe, reliable energy to support its mission of providing life-saving healthcare to those who need it most.
"The natural gas service provided by Washington Gas helps Holy Cross Germantown Hospital operate a LEED Gold facility to better serve our patients. Holy Cross Health looks forward to a strong relationship with Washington Gas for years to come."
