Washington Gas hosted a commemorative event on June 18 at our Wharf location to celebrate surpassing our 32% Supplier Diversity goal. The gathering aimed to acknowledge the achievement of exceeding the annual target and recognize the individuals whose contributions were pivotal in reaching this milestone.

Mark Reed, Washington Gas’ Vice President of Supply Chain, provided the Welcome and Safety message. Nedra Dickson from Accenture served as the event’s host and moderator.

A panel discussion was a highlight of the event, featuring representatives from various construction companies, utilities, and agencies. They shared valuable insights on best practices in Supplier Diversity, with a specific emphasis on fostering collaborations with Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) to explore growth opportunities.

During the event, Lyndon Dupont, Senior Director, Regional Leader delivered a thought-provoking diversity message, shedding light on the significance of Juneteenth and presenting initiatives and strategies to promote inclusivity within the organization.

He also shared the following links for Juneteenth education and ways to support.

“You can make a difference by Communicating, Educating, Serving/Donating, Investing and Collaborating. Remember that Juneteenth is about celebration and empowerment. Push for positive change by illuminating historical contributions, changemakers, and inspiring stories.”

The event also included an award ceremony where Washington Gas honored recipients with the Trailblazer Award for their significant contributions towards surpassing the annual Supplier Diversity goal. The recipients, including Wayne Frazier, Ferguson Trenching Company, Sutherland Global, Ft Myer Construction, Tyson’s Construction, and teams led by Michelle Musgrove, Vice President of Customer Experience and Steve Himmelfarb, Senior Director of Operations Services played crucial roles in developing and executing strategies that led to exceeding the company's diversity goal.

In addition, Lyndon Dupont was recognized with the Harold D. Williams Award for his pivotal role in advancing Supplier Diversity within Washington Gas.

The event exemplified the company's commitment to diversity by engaging only diverse suppliers for the execution of this event.

In conclusion, the event served as a token of appreciation for the outstanding efforts and served as a reminder to continue pushing boundaries and striving for excellence in supplier diversity initiatives.
