WGL - the parent company of Washington Gas - released a sustainability report showcasing the dedication of Washington Gas and other subsidiaries to energy efficiency, sustainable business practices and community improvement.
The report highlights the company’s success and continued focus on achieving aggressive sustainability goals.
Notable achievements in sustainability for Washington Gas include:
- Reduced utility fleet and facility carbon emissions by 74% between 2008 and 2015.
- Invested more than $760 million in replacing and modernizing distribution pipelines, in support of sustainable development goal (#9) to “build resilient infrastructure, promote sustainable industrialization and foster innovation.”
- Achieved a 20% reduction in carbon emissions intensity per therm delivered, during a period in which WGL added 76,800 new customers.
- Contributed to the communities within our service territory, including leading an annual Day of Weatherization to improve energy efficiency for homeowners who may have trouble paying their bills.
