On Thursday, December 6th, Washington Gas sponsored its second affordable housing event with the Housing Association of Nonprofit Developers titled “Regional Updates on Energy Efficiency and Affordable Housing.” The event had over 80 industry professionals in attendance from organizations like the Community Preservation and Development Corporation (CPDC), Alexandria Housing Development Corporation (AHDC), Somerset Development Company and Department of Energy and Environment (DOEE).
Sharing updates on the Multifamily Incentive Program (MIP) and Washington Gas’ Energy Savings Program, Michelle Wright, Multifamily Account Manager, and Sean Skulley, Manager of Energy Efficiency Program, discussed programs and solutions available to multifamily developers.

The MIP lowers first costs for developers who choose individual-unit natural gas meters as the energy solution for their multifamily projects—in some instances, it covers costs of internal piping completely.
“We want to partner with you, as we know it takes multiple things to finance a project,” Wright said. “This incentive can help support those costs.”
In addition to the MIP, the Energy Savings Program offers rebates in Maryland and Virginia to homeowners, commercial and multifamily developers to replace old, inefficient equipment with high efficiency equipment.
“These rebates, coupled with the incentive program, provide capital that could be reused for your projects,” said Skulley regarding the Maryland rebates.
The Sales and Marketing team partners with organizations such as HAND to affirm the company’s commitment to providing energy solutions to the affordable housing community.
