Washington Gas would like to spotlight our Supervisor – Field Operations Melvin Pickett and his fantastic crew!
Last December, Pickett and his team first volunteered for Food 4 Families: Canastas, a food distribution at the Latin American Youth Center in Riverdale, Maryland. Pickett and his crew helped assemble Christmas food baskets for Latino families.

They again answered the call for volunteers needed for a 5:30 a.m. media day to support the Washington Area Fuel Fund (WAFF) event sponsored by Washington Gas and News4 Today at The Wharf in the District. The crew worked the January 20th event, then left and went to their daytime jobs, then turned back around the next day and volunteered on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. during the main WAFF Ice House event.
What makes this team unique is their supervisor, who leads by example. Pickett encourages his team to volunteer and works alongside them at events. He’s a frequent track and field events volunteer during DC Special Olympics Summer games kickoff and has also served as a house captain during past Washington Gas Day of Weatherization projects. Pickett’s entire team enthusiastically responds to opportunities to volunteer and is ready to pitch in wherever needed to support Washington Gas communities. They are the definition of community service champions.
“We are a family,” said Rodney Banks, Crew Assistant, and that’s very apparent. The crew arrives together at events and on time. They work hard together and are the most pleasant group of co-workers and volunteers anyone could ask for.
Shout out to Melvin Pickett and his incredible team: Marcus Green, Rodney Banks, Barrett Hurt, John Moore, Ryan Johnson, Montero Douglas, Salvador Salamanca, Chris Carmona and Andrew Pineda!
