White Paper: Positioning WGL as an Energy Developer Through Economic Development

As part of the 2014 WGL rebrand, WGL leadership identified the need to establish a new business unit, Economic Development, to attract revenue opportunities currently outside of the scope of the traditional gas utility business model.  This WGL business unit strategically pursues direct revenue-generating opportunities and also proactively pursues political and policy opportunities that can drive future business.  

 

Business Opportunity Types

With the strategic goal of increasing revenue growth, Economic Development strives to create a balance between the traditional sales approach and proactive market creation. Focused on direct revenue-generating opportunities, the Economic Development team‘s customer audience fits into the following three categories:

  • Government and Quasi-Government Entities
  • Institutions 
  • Private/Commercial
  • Additional Opportunities
