Credits Available for Virginia Customers as part of COVID-19 Relief

For our Virginia customers who have experienced economic hardship due to COVID-19, you are eligible to receive bill payment assistance for a portion of your unpaid utility bills from March 1, 2020 – April 30, 2021, from the Virginia Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act.  


Washington Gas cares about its customers, and we want to get you the help you need right now. To receive the credit, Washington Gas must receive your application by May 31, 2021.

This federal relief fund will provide a credit to satisfy a portion of your unpaid Washington Gas balance for the March 1, 2020 – April 30, 2021 period only and cannot be applied to any other balances.

FAQs

  • Who qualifies for these funds?

    Washington Gas customers who have experienced economic hardship resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic causing them to have unpaid utility bills from the period of March 1, 2020 – April 30, 2021. These customers may receive a one-time credit applied to a portion of their balance. 

  • How do I know if I qualify for relief from Washington Gas?

    Residential customers who qualify for this one-time credit will be contacted directly by letter, email or postcard and provided specific steps to complete and return the required signed application. Washington Gas must receive the completed, signed application no later than May 31, 2021.

  • How do I return the form?

  • Will this bring my account current?

    Past due balances for bills issued before or after the eligible period (March 1, 2020 – April 30, 2021), or not related to a COVID-19 related event, are not eligible for the relief credit through this program.

  • Do residential and commercial accounts qualify?

    Yes! Both residential and commercial gas customers who have been impacted by COVID-19 and have accounts with a past due balance between March 1, 2020 – April 30, 2021 are eligible for the one-time credit for a portion of the qualifying charges. Funds are being provided by the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act and only apply to March 1, 2020 – April 30, 2021 billing statements. Any past due amounts incurred before or after this time period will not qualify.

  • When will I see the approved credit on my account and/or monthly bill?

    Once we receive and review your completed application, we will post the qualified credit to your account in June 2021. The qualified credit will appear on page 2 of your subsequent monthly gas bill labeled “VA COVID Relief Fund.”
