Have you fallen behind on your gas bill and live in Virginia? We care about your situation and are here to help you get assistance from multiple programs offered through the federal government, state-managed programs, Washington Gas and The Salvation Army.

Federal LIHEAP Program

LIHEAP funding offers grants to states and Washington D.C. to help qualified applicants pay their energy bills. Your household size and income are among the information needed to qualify. 

Your first step in getting financial assistance is applying for the LIHEAP program. Once certified, you may be eligible for one or more of the assistance programs listed below. 

Virginia Energy Assistance Program (VEAP)

VEAP can help you pay your heating and cooling bills based on factors such as household size and income, heating sources, etc. To learn more and apply, call the Virginia Department of Social Services’ Information and Referral Line at 211 or 800-230-6977, or get more information online.

Washington-Area Fuel Fund (WAFF)

WAFF is a partnership between Washington Gas and The Salvation Army that has assisted thousands of families in D.C., Maryland, and Virginia with their fuel bills. Regardless of eligibility for other assistance programs, you may still receive help from WAFF by demonstrating proven need.

Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP)

Funded by the U.S. DOEE, WAP provides you with technical and financial assistance to help reduce your energy bill. Experts perform energy audits on your home and install audit-recommended energy efficiency measures to improve energy-efficiency and safety. Energy Audit and Weatherization Program

Washington Gas works with Community Housing Partners (CHP) Energy Solutions, a nonprofit organization based in Virginia, to install weatherization measures to qualified Virginia residents. Whether you live in a single-family or multi-family home, you may qualify for energy efficiency measures such as water heater tank insulation, water pipe insulation, low-flow showerheads, attic insulation, and more.
