System Improvements at 29th and K
Washington, DC 20007
On Monday and Tuesday June 10-11, 2019, additional construction vehicles will be on site and temporary traffic control will be put in place throughout the day to move vehicles and equipment in and out of the construction areas as crews complete a time-sensitive portion of the work. Please expect temporary traffic delays. Access to the parking garage will be maintained but please be aware that construction vehicles will be entering and exiting the job site. All work will be performed in accordance with the applicable traffic control permits.
On Tuesday June 11, 2019, work hours will be extended to 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. as crews complete the system tie-in, a time-sensitive portion of the work.
We are replacing a portion of the protection system to improve the safety and reliability of natural gas service for the entire Washington, D.C., metropolitan region. This project is just one of many infrastructure improvements being made across the region.
Construction will occur within the construction fenced areas at the following sites:
Site 1: In the green space on the north side of K Street, NW, just east of the garage entrance to 1001 30th Street NW, Washington DC 20007.
Site 2: On Capital Crescent Trail west of 34th Street, near the temporary construction trailers.
The images below shows the approximate locations of construction. All work is permitted by National Parks Service and the District Department of Transportation.

This project will use state-of-the-art equipment to capture and reinject natural gas into the system, thereby mitigating methane emissions.
Planned Construction Activity:
Construction is planned to start as early as May 15, 2019 and is expected to be completed by July 2019. Construction schedules may be affected by weather and other unforeseen circumstances. As permitted, work will typically be performed between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
What to Expect During Construction:
Garage access will be maintained at all times. You can expect to see Washington Gas and contractor vehicles and equipment, and you may hear construction noise. For your safety, do not enter construction areas or approach vehicles or equipment.
Temporary restorations will be made immediately following the completion of this construction project. Permanent restorations will be made in compliance with the permit and will occur 30-45 days after all work is completed, weather permitting. Washington Gas will restore to pre-construction conditions.
