DISTRIBUTION INTEGRITY MANAGEMENT PROGRAM (DIMP)

Per Department of Transportation (DOT) Part 192 Subpart P regulations, every distribution operator was required to have a Distribution Integrity Management Program (DIMP) plan in place by August 2, 2011. The seven key elements of a DIMP plan are:

  1. Knowledge of distribution system
  2. Identify threats
  3. Evaluate and rank risk
  4. Identify and implement measures to reduce risk
  5. Measure performance, monitor results, and evaluate effectiveness
  6. Periodic evaluation and improvement
  7. Report results

The DIMP team at Washington Gas is responsible for the following activities:

  • Manages the company’s DIMP plan and continually strives towards mitigating risk for the distribution system and enhancing pipeline safety
  • Concentrates on data integrity (accuracy and completeness) and data management
  • Performs analysis to recommend/support annual capital replacement projects for risk mitigation
  • Prepares reports to support accelerated actions
  • Evaluates effectiveness through performance measures
