SECURITY POLICY

Protecting your information is a priority on washingtongas.com. We use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) technology to protect the security of your online information. When you pay your bill and provide your checking or credit card number, SSL encrypts all personal information including your account number, name and address. With this encryption, only Washington Gas has the ability to decode your information.

How can you be sure that any connection is secure? Look at the lower left-hand corner of your browser window after accessing a server. If you see an unbroken key or a closed lock (depending on your browser), the SSL is active and your information is secure. You can also double-check by looking at the URL line of your browser. When accessing a secure server, the first characters of the site address will change from "http" to "https."

If you are unable to connect to our secure server or would rather pay your bill by phone, you may call our automated phone line at 703-750-7944.

If you pay your bill online, the encrypted information is automatically transferred via a SSL connection to a secure server where it is not accessible to anyone else online.

Customer Service Center Security

To access your account information online, you must register to use the Washington Gas Customer Portal. During the registration process, we will ask you to provide your registered email address, create a password and select a security question and answer to enter the secured area of the site. Your password is not displayed when entered.

Your Password - You are responsible for the security of your password. Never reveal your password to anyone. Never write it down where anyone can find it or figure out what it is. Never access the eService Center from a computer to which anyone else may have access.

Logging Out - Please use our "Logout" feature if you are going to be away from your computer for an extended period of time. The logout feature will end your session, and you will have to re-submit your email address and password before entering the site again. We strongly recommend shutting down your browser to prevent others from using your eService Center access.

Email

Please note that email is not encrypted and is not considered a secure means of transmitting checking account or credit card numbers. Washington Gas will NEVER ask for sensitive information via email. If you contact us about payment, please do not include your checking account or credit card number in the email.
