Ravensworth Storage Facility Achieves Significant Safety Milestone

Last month, Washington Gas’ Ravensworth Storage Facility achieved a significant safety milestone, reaching 10 years injury free. The milestone represents a decade of commitment, operational excellence, and teamwork.

All Ravensworth employees – from plant operators to maintenance techs to leaders – played a role in this accomplishment by following procedures, proactively identifying hazards, and continuing to learn and improve.

“Achieving 10 years injury free is a major accomplishment, and reflects every single team member’s dedication to working safely and looking out for one another,” said Jason Weekley, Chief Operating Officer, Utilities and President, Washington Gas. “As we reflect on this milestone, we also look ahead and reaffirm our commitment to the same behaviors and practices that made this possible.”

“We operate on the premise of collaboration, integrity, inclusion, and learning. All of these tie into the overarching goal of safety,” said Brenn Hawkins, Ravensworth Plant Supervisor.  

Ravensworth is an underground liquid propane storage facility in Virginia, built in the early 1960s. The plant stores propane and plays an essential role in supporting reliable energy service during periods of peak demand.
