Washington Gas Submits Initial Filing in Maryland PSC
Future of Gas Proceeding (Case No. 9707)

The Company underscores its commitment to affordability, reliability, safety, and defending customer energy choice.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — February 10, 2026 — Washington Gas submitted its initial filing in the Maryland Public Service Commission’s Future of Gas proceeding, marking an important milestone in a consequential discussion about Maryland’s long-term energy future.

The filing reflects Washington Gas’s commitment to ensuring that Maryland customers continue to have access to affordable, reliable and safe energy, while constructively engaging in discussions about the state’s economic and climate goals. As the Commission evaluates long-term energy pathways, Washington Gas looks forward to providing data-driven analysis on the role natural gas plays for homes, businesses, and critical institutions across the state.

“This proceeding is an important opportunity to focus on facts, customer impacts, and the operational realities of Maryland’s energy system,” said Blue Jenkins, President of the Company. “We welcome the chance to share detailed information about how natural gas infrastructure supports affordability, reliability, and climate policies, and why it must remain an essential part of a balanced energy portfolio.”

The filing underscores three key facts: natural gas demand in Maryland remains strong, electrification will cost Marylander’s billions of dollars while potentially increasing greenhouse gas emissions, and the electric grid is not currently prepared to replace natural gas heating during extreme winter conditions.

Washington Gas intends to be an active and transparent participant throughout the proceeding and encourages customers, communities, businesses, and policymakers to come to the table in support of practical, customer driven solutions. Working together, the Company believes stakeholders can help ensure Maryland’s energy decisions protect affordability, reliability, and choice for the customers Washington Gas serves.

“We believe this process should be guided by evidence and sound analysis,” said Jenkins. “We are here for our customers, and we will continue to advocate for an energy future that keeps homes heated, businesses operating, and communities resilient.”

Additional filings and testimony will follow as the Commission’s review continues.
