Donation to Provide Fresh Food to Those in Need This Holiday Season

Washington Gas today announced a $25,000 donation to support food security in Prince George’s County. Washington Gas’ latest round of contributions will help provide essential food for residents in need this holiday season.

The donation will benefit 800 households throughout the county, representing veterans, homebound seniors, and disabled residents. Recipients will receive food boxes filled with fresh produce, protein, and dry goods. The food boxes will be delivered between December 20th and December 22nd, ensuring Prince George’s County residents will have fresh food and nutritious meals to enjoy over the holiday period.

The donation will provide food boxes to support residents in the following communities:

  • New Carrollton
  • Bladensburg
  • Forest Heights
  • Riverdale Park

Washington Gas partnered with Prince George’s County Food Equity Council, to continue its support of food security needs in the region and to support the company’s wider ambition to give back to communities in the DMV area. It also ties closely with the company’s mission of improving the quality of life by safely and reliably connecting customers to affordable sources of energy today and beyond.

“Washington Gas is proud to partner with Prince George’s County to provide fresh food boxes to those in need this holiday season. As members of this community, we all have a role to play in lending a hand to those who need it most. This donation reflects our ongoing commitment to help address critical community issues like food insecurity,” said Blue Jenkins, President of Washington Gas

“We want to thank Washington Gas for this generous donation to support Prince Georgians in need during the holiday season,” said Prince George’s County Executive Angela Alsobrooks. “The COVID-19 pandemic increased the number of families struggling with food insecurity in our region, and we have been working hard to address that issue over the past year and a half. We are grateful for partners like Washington Gas who help us show that we are proud to provide for our community during the holidays and throughout the year.”
